Highlighting the role additives play in enhancing coating performance

Through our experience working with manufacturers and customers in the industry we have a depth of knowledge that we apply to develop additives that can resolve common performance issues of coatings. This includes durability, stability and surface appearance.
Addressing surface appearance
It can be time consuming and costly for a coating to be applied only for its desired consistency and finish to be unsightly. To prevent this, we’ve developed a range of defoamers that can suppress and remove foam that is created during manufacturing and application. Which, if left unresolved, can lead to pinholes and surface voids.
Furthermore, we’ve developed dispersants and wetting agents, like our DeCAL 2042, that breakdown and distribute pigment particles to evenly prevent clumping, settling and colour variation in water-borne systems.
Improving flow and levelling
Our specially developed DeCAL range also includes associative thickeners which control viscosity and flow. This ensures paints and coatings can be applied smoothly with sag resistance and anti-settling and provides less splattering when applied by a roller. Through its application a more uniform finish is delivered, which ensures the area is fully coated and is less likely to degrade prematurely.
Providing stability and improved shelf life
Formulated to remain effective at high-temperatures and over a wide pH range is our DeCAL 2045, a hydrophobic dispersant designed for water-borne high gloss coatings. Its use provides stability and improved shelf life.
