Sodium Polyacrylate

Sodium Polyacrylate Dispersants

All products in the 2000 series are synthetic dispersants and demonstrate a high degree of stability to prolonged storage under hot alkaline conditions and effective over pH range 5.5 to 14.

Products

DeCAL 2040 Sodium Polyacrylate Homopolymer

DeCAL 2040 is a low viscosity dispersing agent for water-borne coating systems and is especially suited for the dispersion of inorganic pigments. DeCAL 2040 is a solution of a sodium salt of an acrylic polymer in water and, with DeCAL 2041, is the standard dispersant for matt emulsion paints. Both can also be used in certain semi-gloss and gloss formulations.

Applications

DeCAL 2040 is an ideal dispersing agent for a wide range of water-borne coatings

Benefits:

  • Improved storage stability of both the pigment dispersion and the formulated paint.
  • Little or no adverse reaction to high temperatures or pH changes.

DeCAL 2042 Sodium Polyacrylate Copolymer

A low viscosity product used to disperse inorganic pigments and fillers in water-borne systems.

Applications

DeCAL 2042 is especially suited for use in silk and gloss emulsion paints where its compatibility with glycols maintains the gloss of the system. DeCAL 2042 can also be used to disperse fillers and pigments in many products such as tile adhesives, grouts, fillers and water-based adhesives and glues. It is also used to stabilise dispersions of clay in ceramic casting slips.

Benefits:

  • Ideal dispersing agent for water borne high gloss coatings containing polypropylene glycol and other glycols used to promote wet edge time and film coalescence.
  • Effective at high temperatures above 100°C over a pH range of 5 – 12.
  • Offers much better stability and improved shelf life for water borne paints and coatings.
  • Very high pigment loading can be achieved when thoroughly mixed with water before adding pigments and fillers to the system using high shear mixers.
